Sometimes things just aren’t meant to be…

A house plaque my fiancé and I made before Christmas for our new home, we made a silly mistake made in exhaustion…

Clay is full of water, and the amount inside changes as it’s being made and over the drying process. As our plaque was freshly made the clay was full of water. We left it in my ceramics studio overnight in freezing temperatures, the water froze and turned to ice within the clay. Overnight it caused cracks to appear over the clays surface and over a few days the 3D elements cracked off even after bringing indoors the next morning.

Sadly this was an over so I had fun smashing it up! But we remade it and the second turned out better than the first. I’ll share once it’s glazed
